Curiosity Entering "Seven Minutes of Terror"

   American Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) is currently waiting for landing spacecraft carrying robots to examine for signs of life on Mars.

Spacecraft cost 2.5 million U.S. dollars, the Mars Science Laboratory (MSL), following a car-sized robot named Curiosity brought expected to land on Mars on Monday (08.06.2012) is at 12:31 pm.

If the landing is successful then this opportunity will be the first moment of landing a six-wheeled robot on the planet other than Earth.

"In our rational self-confident, emotionally anxious and ready to land," said Adam Stelzner, one of which handles the spacecraft entered the atmosphere and landing on Mars.

The physicists at the Laboratory of the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) in Geneva, Switzerland, Friday (23/09/2011) local time, announced the success they found the existence of particles that can move faster than the speed of light.

OPERA spokesman, Antonio Ereditato, from the University of Bern, Switzerland, said the findings as a complete surprise. The researchers acknowledge, the results of this research will lead to the pros and cons of being against the laws of physics that have been established for over 100 years old.

For that, other independent measurements needed to test these findings. CERN Research Director Sergio Bertolucci said, if the results of their measurements can be confirmed by other scientists, these findings will change the view of the human race about the physics.

Mahasiswa UPI Ciptakan Kompor Tanpa Api

Mahasiswa jurusan Teknik Elektro Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia menciptakan kompor inovatif. Kompor itu bukan saja lebih efisien, melainkan juga mudah, aman, dan nyaman untuk digunakan.

Ganjar Candra Sumindar, mahasiswa yang menciptakan kompor ini, menamai inovasinya Komnet alias Kompor Magnet. Ia mempertunjukkan hasil karyanya di Technopreneurship Island di RITech Expo, yang digelar di Sasana Budaya Ganesha, Bandung, 8-10 Agustus 2012.

Ditemui Kompas.com dalam pameran pada Kamis (9/8/2012), Ganjar mengatakan bahwa kompornya memiliki beberapa kelebihan. Salah satunya, kompor ini tidak menghasilkan api sehingga lebih aman digunakan. "Kalau kita memanaskan dengan peralatan masak dari logam, kompor ini tidak akan membuat bagian pegangan alat masak itu panas," urainya.

Dalam pameran, Ganjar menunjukkan kertas pun jika ditaruh di atas kompor tak akan terbakar ataupun menjadi panas. Menurutnya, kompor ini hanya bisa memanaskan material yang bersifat magnetik. Kompor ini juga aman. Begitu peralatan masak tak ditaruh di atas kompor, maka kompor otomatis akan mati.

Terdapat dua jenis pemanasan, yakni panas dan hangat, serta masih bisa diatur sesuai kebutuhan. Ganjar menguraikan, dasar dari pembuatan kompornya adalah induksi elektromagnetik. Listrik dihantarkan ke dalam lilitan kabel di dalam kompor sehingga tercipta induksi elektromagnetik. Induksi inilah yang akan menghasilkan panas.

Bagian kompor terbuat dari bahan logam. Sementara itu, tungku terbuat dari bahan keramik yang dipilih karena cepat panas. Ganjar membuat dua pilihan kompor, satu dan dua tungku. Komnet buatan Ganjar diklaim hemat daya dan murah. "Dayanya hanya 300 Watt. Harganya kalau sudah diproduksi massal untuk 1 tungku Rp 700.000 dan yang 2 tungku Rp 1,5 juta. Kita sudah sempat uji coba ke UKM," katanya.

Ganjar mengatakan, inovasi pada kompor ini adalah membuat sesuatu yang sebelumnya dianggap merugikan menjadi menguntungkan. "Induksi magnet menyebabkan panas. Ini merugikan karena dianggap kehilangan listrik. Di sini, panas yang dihasilkan dimanfaatkan," paparnya.
