Not Endless, Afghanistan War Vietnam Beat Records

Washington - Last month, Afghanistan surpassed Vietnam as the longest campaign in U.S. military history, said U.S. Senator John Kerry. This comparison can not be avoided, by the press, pundits, and now, politicians. Senator Kerry failed to bring the U.S. war decades ago at an important time in the United States. "This is a difficult time in the Afghan conflict," according to the Senator. This is a time when questions about the strategy and the progress bound, look at the trial in the government and the U.S. strategy in civilian areas. The person in charge of the efforts for the Obama Administration, which was a Vietnam veteran himself, trying to make it a history lesson. "I want to underline the fundamental difference between the two wars, in Afghanistan's national security is at stake," said U.S. Ambassador Richard Holbrooke, special envoy to Afghanistan and Pakistan. "The U.S. Constitution requires that before the U.S. went to war there are acts of Congress," said U.S. Congressman Denis Kucinich (D-OH) in an interview with Russia Today. But as the Vietnam War, Congress "has never proposed procedure with respect to the war in Afghanistan," according to Kucinich. "We just turned into a war and long-term commitment." This is a long-term commitment that seems tiring lawmakers who want to know this problem. "Is not this will help the president to at least issue a flexible schedule," said U.S. Senator Russ Feingold (D-WI).

Of course he was referring to the schedule when the U.S. out of Afghanistan. Beyond the date of July 2011 to begin the withdrawal of U.S. President Barack Obama set earlier. This does not provide assurance "that it does not have to be open-ended occupation," said Senator Feingold. Holbrooke stressed that the U.S. is not committed to any calendar. But still, the end game is unclear. "The mission of the military and civilians running in Afghanistan without a clear definition of success," said Senator Richard Lugar (R-IN). The ambassador believes the successful reintegration of the Taliban, starting next week. But little about whether Afghanistan seems to support the U.S.. "It's not where you choose to defend the American homeland," Holbrooke said about Afghanistan. "This place was logistically the most difficult ever lived in the U.S. war history." But that could end this fight, in the absence of the date of withdrawal, and if the political and military mission failed? "Congress has the ability to stop the war by not funding it," Kucinich said. While U.S. lawmakers and officials to talk strategy and peer success in Afghanistan, comes amid escalating violence in the region. June was the bloodiest month since the conflict began. One hundred international troops were killed. So far in July 45 killed, 33 Americans. And in the last 24 hours alone, 12 had died. Overall strategy in Afghanistan is to continue the leadership role of the United States military and coalition forces to Afghanistan. Jake Diliberto of Rethink Afghanistan, but said that Afghanistan is not yet ready to take on leadership roles. "The Afghan army is not effective, so the Taliban will gain momentum and unfortunately unless there are peace talks and peace negotiations will always be vulnerable situation," said Diliberto. Diliberto argues that the Taliban is the mindset of the generation that is deeply embedded in the culture. It is an ideology that can not simply be defeated by force and no amount of money to be made to stop the Taliban insurgency. "The main reason for the rise of the Taliban is because we are in their village and valley. We should not be there," said Diliberto. He added that the proposal to use support U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton who will use the funds to "buy" the Taliban will not work. "It will be the same as bribing members of the gang to gang members who complain about others" he said. "The concept is absolutely ridiculous."
